HVAC is an abbreviation for Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning. These are the three fundamental requirements of any building be it high-rise buildings, small dwellings or industries. The term 'climate control' is also used to denote the system because these three functions have become an integral part of every modern structure and have added to the 'comfort quotient' of the building.

This sector is used to regulate the room temperature, humidity and airflow, thereby improving the living conditions in the building. This system helps in reducing fatigue, improving physical strength and lessening health related hazards. It boosts thinking abilities and keeps you mentally agile and active.

The jobs in this sector are not difficult to find. You can find jobs like a technician, a pipe fitter, a foreman, a superintendent, a sales representative or even a manager. With the right qualifications, you can get jobs from all around the globe.

To start a career in this system, you need training, which will get you a HVAC universal license. So students who have completed high school can enroll themselves in the training institutes which offer training that leads to their certification. With the growth in this industry, lots of training institutes have also grown. So, be careful when you choose the school to which you are enrolling.

Students in the school learn how these systems are assembled, how it works and how to regulate it. They also learn to troubleshoot and diagnose the faulty systems and repair them. They are also trained to handle the chemicals and the toxic gases like chlorofluorocarbons, which the system discharges. After adequate training and once you are armed with a certificate, you can consider yourself a skilled worker and there will be a high demand for your services. You will start off with higher than average wages, particularly in big cities, where there are more sky scrapers, huge apartment blocks and large shopping complexes, malls and multi-specialty big hospitals.

There are special areas for a technician like commercial businesses, commercial contractors, residential plumbing contractors, and sales.

Innovations are making equipments more efficient and user-friendly. So, HVAC industry jobs offer security, respect, upward mobility, huge salaries, and opportunities and employment for a lifetime. Once you have gained sufficient experience, you get other openings, which include starting off as faculty in any of the training institutes. Trainers are required in large numbers today. So, you can proudly call yourself a visiting professor.

This field is an evergreen one. So for companies employing people with rich experience and knowledge, salaries will not be a major constraint. A survey conducted by Air Conditioning Contractors of America noticed that there had been a significant increase in salaries of such technicians over a period of 2 years between 2005 and 2007. The rise in salaries was estimated to be about 15% and most of them earned about $45,000 annually.

The HVAC industry is a worldwide enterprise with career opportunities in operation and maintenance, system design and construction, equipment manufacturing, sales, education, and research. So, will you be the one who sits back and just watches opportunity fly by or will you plunge in and seize the opportunity?

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
